Welcome to Hazel 5!
Our Class Teacher is Mr Nicholson and our
ETA is Mrs Firth
I would like to wish both children and parents/carers a warm welcome to our
class page. Please use this page to check up on all of the exciting learning we
are getting up to.
I would like to welcome back my wonderful Hazel 5 pupils after what I hope has been a restful half term break. This will be our final term together and I hope to make it incredibly memorable. We have so many exciting units of work to carry out and I can't wait to get started.
In Hazel 5, we believe that learning is magical. We have promised to become
the best version of ourselves by following our core values of Justice, Peace,
Compassion, Friendship and Endurance. We believe that if we encompass these
skills we can achieve anything.
Hazel 5 Weekly Learning Week Commencing 17/06/19
In Maths this week pupils will be revisiting fractions. Pupils will be investigating how to add, subtract and multiply fractions whilst converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. Pupils will also be solving a range of problem solving and reasoning skills in order to adequately prepare them for their half termly tests.
This week in English pupils will be improving their understanding of Myths legends and fables, creating their own mythical creatures and building a bank of vocabulary in preparation for their unaided write. Pupils will also be building upon prior knowledge of story writing as they will also be writing their myth with a beginning, build up, problem, solution and ending.
Love of Reading
Our Love of Reading sessions take place three times per week, we are currently studying The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkein. Pupils are thoroughly engaged with this book and we have an amazing array of activities planned for pupils such as making their own weapons and designing their own cryptic Elvish messages. During these sessions pupils will also be exposed to a range of comprehension style questions to prepare them for half termly tests. Take a look at the slideshow to see what we have been getting up to at the top of the page.
Our new Topic in History this term will be the Ancient Greeks. Pupils will be learning about how they were influential to our modern day society. Pupils will be creating their own theatre plays, eating Greek food and learning about the Ancient Greek democracy. I simply can't wait to get started on this topic as pupils always thoroughly enjoy it. Take a look at our gallery at the top of this page.
As a school we operate an open door policy on a Wednesday after school, if you need to talk to me please drop in. If you wish to speak with me outside of this period then please do not hesitate to contact the school office and I will endeavour to return your call.
Our P.E day is Wednesday and Friday so please ensure your child has a suitable P.E kit in school on this day (a white t-shirt and black shorts). All children will need their swimming kit on a Friday.
Homework is handed out on a Friday and must be returned by the following Wednesday. Each week the children will receive a piece of English and Maths homework. Weekly spellings will be handed out on a Friday. Please encourage your child to learn the different spelling patterns by practising them regularly, ready for the spelling test on the following Friday. (Each spelling pattern will be taught over the course of two weeks). Pupils are also expected to read three times per week, logs are due in every Monday to be checked.
Please encourage your child to also access TT-Rockstars whenever possible in order to practise their multiplication tables. We are currently holding a battle of the bands in Hazel 5 and the winning team will win a prize. Your can access the website here- https://play.ttrockstars.com/
