Pastoral Support

At Bywell, the Learning Mentors are here to support you socially and emotionally as part of your development, allowing you to feel happy, safe and ready to learn. Our whole–school approach to positive mental health allows us to identify any social and emotional difficulties early, and we endeavour to work alongside staff, families and external agencies to ensure every child’s well-being needs are being met therefore, supporting children to reach their full potential.

As a team, we take pride in delivering a number of Intervention groups including:

1:1 Session – Specifically catered for each individual child

Mighty Amigos – Identifying their own worth as a friend.

Happy Mindset – Implementing strategies to promote confidence and self-esteem

Happy Mindset – Sports activities – promoting confidence and working together

Sensory based social speaking – Exploring and broadening speech through our senses

Fine/Gross motor skills – Specific strategies to strengthen motor skills

2,4,6,8 This Is How We Regulate – Boosting the power of mindfulness and promoting resilience.

Additionally, Miss Dent is qualified as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) – A registered training program aimed at supporting the emotional well-being of young people.

 

Parent Support

This is a difficult time for everyone and we know it can be a struggle to balance work, childcare and self-care while keeping worries – both your children’s and your own-under control.  To support, we have compiled a list of useful websites that may help ease a little worry and provide answers to some of your questions.  We hope this helps and if you have any school-related queries, then please don’t hesitate to email the school office at office@bywelljuniorschool.co.uk.

Parental Queries

Parenting Smart offers practical advice for parents and carers of children aged 5-11. All of our content is created by Place2Be’s parenting experts. Simply search the concern or issue such as Bed wetting or Sibling rivalry and there is small videos of advice and links to further resources an excellent starting point for queries.

Financial Support

Check which benefits you are entitled to. The ‘entitled to benefits‘ calculator will check which means-tested benefits you may be entitled to.

If you are making an initial claim for Universal Credit then you will be able to get help from the Citizens Advice Universal Credit Help to Claim Helpline on 0800 144 8444. This is a national service.

  • Better Off:  A service for people who live in Kirklees. Better Off will show you the benefits you are entitled to and will help you to apply for them online.

If you or your family are affected financially, they may be able to help you in a number of ways. The only qualifying criteria are that the family live in Kirklees.

They can:

  • Make referrals for school uniform support (free recycled school uniforms are also available from the Uniform Exchange.
  • Advise how to apply for free school meals and school transport.
  • Make referrals for food parcels and/or issue a voucher for food or fuel.
  • Advise on welfare benefit entitlements, including rent and mortgage payments.
  • Avise on local and national COVID-19 assistance schemes.
  • Advise on Council Tax reduction help.
